vLanIO

Welcome to vLanIO! This guide walks you through setup, pairing devices, and sending files on your local network.

Step 1: Install on Every Device

Download vLanIO from the Download page for each computer or phone you plan to use.

Supported platforms:

  • macOS 11+
  • Windows 10/11
  • Linux (AppImage or package)

After installation, grant local network permission when prompted — this allows device discovery.

Step 2: Join the Same Network

All devices must share one LAN:

  • Connect to the same Wi‑Fi SSID, or
  • Plug into the same router or switch via Ethernet

Guest networks and VLAN isolation can block discovery. If devices cannot see each other, try a main network or wired connection.

Step 3: Pair and Trust Devices

When a new peer appears:

  1. Confirm the device name matches what you expect
  2. Accept the connection on both sides if pairing is enabled
  3. Optionally mark the device as Trusted so future transfers skip confirmation

Trusted devices are listed under Settings → Devices.

Step 4: Send Files and Folders

Choose a recipient, then:

  • Drag files into the transfer window
  • Use Send to pick files from disk
  • Queue multiple items — vLanIO sends them sequentially

Progress, speed, and ETA are shown in real time. Cancel anytime before completion.

Tips for a Smooth First Transfer

  • Start with a small test file to verify connectivity
  • Disable VPN on either device if discovery fails
  • Keep vLanIO in the foreground during the first pairing
